Section 51 of The Road Transport Corporations Act, 1950
Composition of offences.
1[51. Composition of offences.--(1) The General Manager of the new Corporation or any officer or other employee specially empowered by him in this behalf in writing may, either before or after the institution of the proceedings compound any offence made punishable by, or under this Act.
- (2)Where an offence has been compounded, the offender, if in custody, shall be discharged and no further proceedings shall be taken against him in respect of the offence so compounded.]
Summary
- The General Manager of the Delhi transport body can settle or "compound" offences.
- This means an offender can pay to have the charges dropped instead of going to a full trial.
- This settlement can happen either before or after a legal case has actually started in court.
- The General Manager can also give this settlement power to another employee in writing.
- If a person is in jail for the offence and it gets settled, they must be released immediately.
- Once an offence is settled, the law forbids any more legal action against the person for that specific crime.
