Section 26 of The Navy Act, 1957
The rights and privileges specified in the preceding sections of this Chapter shall be in addition to, and not in derogation of, any other rights and privileges conferred on persons in the naval service while subject to naval law or on members of the regular Army, Navy and Air Force generally by any other law for the time being in force.
Summary
- The single most important thing this provision does is clarify that the special privileges granted in this chapter do not cancel out any other legal rights a sailor might have.
- These specific naval privileges are meant to be added on top of existing laws.
- They do not take away from general rights granted to members of the armed forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force).
- Any right given by another active law remains fully valid and usable by naval personnel.
